Blyth Valley Together has been launched by Ian Levy MP, to join up the incredible efforts being made to support the most vulnerable during the coronavirus crisis. Discussions with community groups and businesses have highlighted what is already taking place in Blyth, Cramlington and Seaton Valley.
The Blyth Valley Together initiative will support that work by linking the activity and making sure that every part of Blyth Valley has the support that it needs. Morrisons supermarket in Blyth and Fergusons Transport are two of the businesses involved, with community groups now receiving food deliveries to distribute to those in most need.
Ian Levy said, “I met with the community champion from Morrisons who explained that they have food available over the next few weeks as part of the company's response to coronavirus. This gave me the idea of co-ordinating support to organisations across Blyth Valley that are doing so much to help people.
“Fergusons has kindly provided a van and so far, I have been able to organise deliveries to the Community Food and Friendship group in Blyth, Cramlington Food Bank and to Holywell Village Isolation Support Group. It has been fantastic to do this, and I would like to thank all that have been involved to make this happen including the Port of Blyth who have made available storage facilities.
“At this time, coming together as one across Blyth Valley is what is needed, and I am determined to support constituents in every way I can. It is a phenomenally difficult period but together I am certain we will get through it.”
Any groups that would like to be included in future deliveries or anyone or business that would like to make food donations should contact Ian Levy’s office by telephone (01670 338435) or email ([email protected]).
