My third annual Blyth Valley Jobs Fair which was held at Byth Sports Centre on Friday 15th September was a great success. Hundreds of people of a wide range of ages, but many of them young, attended and met with dozens of employers. I’d like to offer my personal thanks to the Department of Work and Pensions and the team in my office who did so much to organise the fair and to the employers who attended with their high-quality job opportunities. We received some very positive feedback from those attending including these comments “All employers have been so helpful and really lovely” and “Facilities excellent clean and tidy- best job fair I’ve been to”.
I had the pleasure of meeting Word War 2 Veteran ‘Judo’ Jack Hearn and my office has helped with his Guiness Book of World Records entry. This week he celebrated his 100th birthday and I was pleased to see Northumberland County Council organise an event to mark the occasion. Happy Birthday Jack and congratulations on everything you have achieved.
It’s great to see the first phase of the Links Development at South Beach complete and occupiers of the new retail units doing such a brisk trade. Phase 2 of the development has been proposed and a public consultation will be held on Wednesday 4th October from 4pm-7pm at Unit 6, The Links at South Beach, Blyth. The proposal aims to build a hotel, family pub/ restaurant and retail pods on the site to create a commercial and leisure hub on the seafront. I think this will be fantastic for our area and will be a development that both the locals and visitors will enjoy for generations. Get along to the consultation if you can.
Their engagement event has taken place now but if you'd like to get involved in the Northumberland Line Community Rail Partnership please contact the office and we'll put you in touch. I couldn’t attend, so my team popped along to the Northumberland Line Community Rail Partnership last Friday at the Project Space in the Keel Row Shopping Centre. Organised by Northumberland County Council, the Community Rail Network and Northern Rail the event was the starting point in developing a Northumberland Line Community Rail Partnership which will help maximise the economic benefits of this massive project, promote safety to local communities, create social value and much more besides. It’s great to see all the pieces of the jigsaw fitting together.
