Ian Levy MP has announced another three Blyth Valley Community Champions who were nominated for their efforts in response to coronavirus. Lindsay Young, Ian Herron and Paul Kerry have all been recognised for setting up initiatives that have provided regular food parcels to residents who are self-isolating or are vulnerable.
Ian Levy said: "It is fantastic that people are continuing to help others and I know the work of Lindsay, Ian and Paul is appreciated. The last 3 months has shown how many community spirited people there are across Blyth Valley and it has been brilliant as MP to provide support.
“I have seen first-hand the impact that Lindsay has made in Seaton Delaval, and more recently in Seghill, through COVID-19 Seaton Delaval Community Support. I have been able work with some our supermarkets to secure donations but without people like Lindsay it would not be possible to provide for as many people. That Lindsay has led this group whilst also studying full-time to be an Occupational Therapist is even more special.”
“Paul has done similar in Cramlington and Ian in Blyth, and I look forward to personally thanking all of them at a reception for Community Champions later this year.”
Lindsay Young said: “It has been great to support the community that I live in. Quite a lot of my neighbours are elderly, and I decided that I really wanted to do something to help. I started in April and was shopping for people and collecting prescriptions.
“I was contacted by Ian who had heard about the group, and he arranged a weekly supply of food and vouchers that I could use at my local supermarket. Working with Ian and his team has made it possible to deliver to over 30 households every week”.
Blyth Valley Community Champions has been set up by Ian Levy to acknowledge the remarkable people who are making a difference to the lives of others during the coronavirus outbreak. Nominations can be made via the link below -
