This week started with a relaxing bank holiday at home, I tackled my garden and then took advantage of the £2 bus fare scheme and headed to Newcastle for a walk along the quayside with Maureen. The sun was shining and it was lovely to spend some quality time together.
It was a nice change not to be jumping on the first train to London as this week was a parliamentary recess, I was able to stay in the constituency and the office. My morning began with an in-person meeting with a constituent who is looking to create more job opportunities in Blyth Valley, followed by a few more telephone surgeries to discuss housing issues and a planning permission matter. I then had a team meeting and left the office in the afternoon to visit my mam and have a catch up and a cup of tea.
Wednesday was a quiet morning in the office catching up on admin and then I had a meeting with a local business to assist with trade related issues and licences. I will always help local businesses whenever I can, if you have any issues you think I can help with please contact me and we can have a chat to find a solution. Later in the day I travelled to Cramlington to knock on some doors to chat with residents about local issues and their experiences with the NHS. This was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon; it was great to speak to so many people in our area and see what their priorities were for improving Blyth Valley.
I carried on with my campaigning most of the day on Thursday before going back to the office for a team meeting to discuss our social media and communications. It is always great to get an insight on what constituents like to see on my social media page and what has been helpful to share. I am proactively looking for community groups and businesses to engage with me about what’s going on in the area. We can promote local events and news stories on our page, helping to generate footfall and spread news in the area. The page is designed to be informative about what I am doing as your MP both in the constituency and in Westminster, but it is also a celebration of Blyth Valley and its achievements.
My family and I took a relaxing break in the Lake District over the weekend, we visited beautiful Keswick and enjoyed walks in the sunshine.
We enjoyed a BBQ with friends on Sunday afternoon and then headed back home to get ready for another busy week. As ever, if you have any queries or if you would like to discuss an issue you think I might be able to help you with, please call 01670 338 435 or email [email protected]
